Scoring Breakdown:
Each contestant is scored in 5 areas of competition:
·      Private Interview - 25%
·      Talent - 35%
·      Evening Wear-20%
·      On-Stage Question - 5%
·      Swimsuit - 15%
Private Interview is 10 minutes in length and is held the morning of the competition.
Judges are looking for exceptional communication skills personality; ability to have validated opinions and responses; ability to fulfill the duties and responsibilities and sense of accomplishment.
Swimsuit Any swimsuit you want to wear is fine.  There are no rules regarding the type of suit you wear.  Make sure you feel comfortable in it and it reflects your personality.
Talent must be 90 seconds in length or less. Contestants are judged on technical skill level; entertainment value; stage presence; and ability to entertain her talent for the public if she is asked to do so. This talent may be singing, dancing, playing a musical instrument, dramatic reading, etc., or a maximum of a 90 second talk. All background music will be turned into pageant director in a cd form; no live accompanists will be permitted. Judges will be informed immediately if a contestant runs over her allotted time.
Evening gown  is the most elegant portion of competition. Her beauty; sense of confidence; personality and stage presence; walk, carriage and grace; sense of style and appropriateness of the eveningwear; and commanding presence is the basis of scoring.
Onstage question  is  the ability to communicate to a large audience and "think on her feet" ability is also scored in the question and answer portion of competition. You will be asked a question on stage.  The question you will draw out of a bowl.  Miss Orem will be on stage asking you the question.  This will be done in your interview suit.
There are 5 judges. One Judge has to be someone who has never judged before.  They are not from our community.  The judges are given guidelines of judging set by the Miss America Organization.  They judge each girl on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the highest.  Every girl has the potential of getting a 10 on each phase of their competition.  The judges do not pick a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.  The scores are averaged together, the high and low score being dropped in each area of the competition.  All scores are then calculated and a "top 5" is determined.  Then take the top 5 scores and rank the contestants with the number they feel she should place. This gives the judges the opportunity to select the contestant they feel is the most well-rounded and able to do the job. They are not there to trick you or make you feel uncomfortable; they are nice and just want to get to know you.
Dues
We are the official program to the Miss Utah/America Scholarship Organization. We are a non-profit Organization based on community service, scholastic achievement and personal accomplishment. We require that each contestant select a personal platform, one in which she can give service to others. This platform should be something that the contestant has a passion for and is readily available to serve with, in her community at large.
There is a commitment fee of $30.00.  This fee will be donated to the scholarship fund. This must be in the form of a check (no cash) made out to the Miss Davis County Scholarship Pageant (MOSP).

Wardrobe Guidelines
When selecting your wardrobe for competition, keep one thing in mind- MAKE IT A REFLECTION OF YOU! No matter what your director, coach or parent tells you- it’s you on stage. Be comfortable in what you are wearing, that will shine through. Confidence comes from within!
Interview and Onstage question: You are applying for the job of Miss Orem, so something you would wear to a job interview would be very appropriate. We do however, discourage you from looking too "old" by wearing a women's suit. This pageant is all about celebrating your unique individual tastes and style. Pick something age appropriate, comfortable and YOU.  You will wear the same outfit for your onstage question.
Swimsuit: Any swimsuit you want to wear is fine.  There are no rules regarding the type of suit you wear.  Make sure you feel comfortable in it and it reflects your personality.  You need to not only exercise, but also be aware of what you are eating.  In other words make sure you are getting the nutrition you need and plenty of water. Remember, it is not about being skinny but being physically fit.
Talent: This is the fun side of competition! You can basically wear anything you want- as long as it is age appropriate and not too revealing. Make it as reflective of your talent selection as you can. Part of your score in talent, is the use of: costume, body and presence. Be yourself, above all else. Your costume should be functional and tasteful.
Evening Gown: Evening gown category is elegant, sophisticated, but still an outward display of who you are on the inside. You should choose something that reflects your personality. You can choose to be modest- cap sleeves; ¾ sleeves and even long sleeves are perfectly fine. You will not be scored less either way. You are being scored on your presence, confidence, grace and ability to connect with your audience. We don't encourage you to purchase an expensive designer gown for this event. Often time’s inexpensive gowns can be jazzed up by adding rhinestones and sequins. There are always was to spruce up a dress you already have, borrow a gown or sometimes gowns can be rented. Be creative, be beautiful and be you.
Again, these are safe guidelines to abide by. If you ever have a question of “what not to wear” just ask. We want you to be the BEST YOU possible.
Photography
We have added a Photographer to the board. There will be a set workshop for headshots. The cost of these headshots will be $30.00 and you will receive a 8 ½ x 11 photo at the end of the pageant.  Payment for headshots will be required on the date of the workshop.
